Prioritizing Your Relationships – Part 9

In Part 8 of this series of posts on prioritizing your relationships, we discussed Bentham’s utilitarianism. In this post we will talk about hot to practice some personal primacy to take back ownership and control of your life.

Your life is just like anything else you build, borrow, buy, or steal. As soon as you get it, you must constantly maintain it in order to protect its value. Because maintenance is such a big part of ownership, the problem most “owned” people have can be summed up as follows: the life they have created is too big and too difficult to comfortably maintain in a practically perfect state.

Why are most peoples’ lives so big and difficult to maintain? Because, most “life-owned” people attempt to be all things to all people all the time in a selfless quest to be loved by everyone else around them, instead of being a “lifeowner” who practices personal primacy.

What’s the best way to shuck the idea of being owned by your life and become Great! All the time!? By figuring out what the right thing is for you to do and constantly do it by PEELing away your life one relationship and one situation at a time. Peeling your life apart one layer at a time will allow you to find those that are truly important to you and then enjoy those relationships as much as you possibly can.

By P-E-E-L, I mean you must:

Perceive – Perceive the details of how you want your life to be, how it currently is, and what resources you have available to invest in moving from where you are to where you want to be.

Exclude – Exclude all the people, places, and things cluttering up your life that either are keeping your life the way it is or impeding you from making your life the way you want it to be.

Execute – Execute your plans in accordance with your unique set of values to translate them into a forward-thinking vision and formulate your own mission required to attain that vision.

Leverage – Leverage your resources optimally to own your life fully and completely.

Learning the definition of Greatness! and how to use the P10 Principle to attain your Greatness! will teach you how to PEEL the tough skin of your life away by taking full and complete ownership of it instead of letting your life and those in it own you so you can truly enjoy the fruits of your labor. The essence of PEELing your life open and enjoying its essence is learning to appreciate doing less more meaningfully.

We will discuss all of these concepts in other posts on Great! All the Time! To tie up this series of posts on prioritizing your relationships, however, let’s spend a moment in Part 10 to probe the value of each of us being responsible for all of us.

In the meantime, you GOTTABGATT!, go out there and be Great! All the time!
