If you ever want to achieve Greatness! in your life and come to own your own life instead of it owning you, then you have to learn and adopt a plan of action that will get you there. A Great! plan to make you a success in anything you want to achieve in life takes Power, Focus, Control, and Balance. In these next four posts, we are going to discuss each of these factors of your new plan for owning your own life instead of it owning you and put them together in a way you can understand and use every day, from the time you get up each morning until the time you go to bed each night, and finish each day feeling as though you accomplished something each and every day of your life.
POWER stands for the instruction to “Proceed only with every resource.” To exercise the most power in your life, you have to put at least some of all eight of your resources in what you are doing in any one place and time.
You have to put your self into whatever you are doing. You have to put some of your time into it. You have to put some effort and energy into it. You have to mix in some emotion and intellect. You almost always have to apply at least some of your own property to almost any task. It is best to get more people involved in what ever you are doing, even if all they are doing is standing and cheering you on. And last but not least, you have to get other people involved in your task at hand.
In physics, power, which can also be defined as “effort,” is the rate at which work is performed or energy is converted per unit of time, which makes power the expression of the relationship of the first three of our life’s precious resources: time, effort, and energy. As a rate of the change of work done by or the energy spent on what you are trying to do, the dimension of power is expressed as Power = Work done (or Energy spent) / Time. Your power is your energy invested or work completed divided by the time it takes to get done what you want to get done.
In a strictly physical sense, maximizing your power requires the application of an optimal mix of various amounts of your life’s resources of time and energy. Leaving the absolute definitions of physics behind, metaphysically speaking, you can enhance the power of what you do by enhancing the energy you put into the task at hand and reducing the amount of time it takes to do it. You can enhance your energy and reduce your time in this equation of life by applying the rest of your resources of effort, emotion, intellect, property, and people.
For example, if your were a Pharoah wanting to build a pyramid, but you only had your self, some time, and some energy, then it would take you lifting a fifty-five pound rock slab every second for ten minutes to do one horsepower worth of work. If you have never hoisted bricks up a scaffold for a bricklayer before (ten minutes is about all one can do it at a run without a rest), then you have no concept of how hard it must have been to build the pyramids.
But if you had ten slaves worth of people resources, you could do the same amount of work as a horse could in the minute. If you gave those people the intellectual resource of knowing how to use tools and the property resource of the right tools to use, then you could do it in even less time. If you could emotionally enthuse them with a religious zeal to build the pyramid, then you could reduce the time needed even further.
So, before you can reach the nirvana of owning your own life instead of it owning you, you have to commit to proceed only with every resource at your disposal. All eight of them. Self, time, effort, energy, emotion, intellect, property, and people.
In Part 2 of this series of posts on the 4 Factors of Greatness!, we will take your POWER and use it with FOCUS.
In the meantime, you GOTTABGATT! so go out there today and be Great! All the time!
